The following items are required for your story to be : - The story cannot be second-hand. It must be written or composed by the person(s) of whom the story is about. You may have another person write your story as you dictate it, but only you may submit the story with your statement to that effect. - Supporting documents must be included. This could be letters, emails, court documents or court filings. Also include any HOA documents such as Deed Restrictions or By-Laws if it applies to your story. - Include your name, address, email address, phone number, HOA, management company for the HOA, attorney representing the HOA, your attorney, and any other facts or information relating to your story. - State whether or not you give your permission to release your story and supporting documents. - Please be specific about any dollar amounts you were fined, billed or paid to your HOA, management company or attorneys and a breakdown of what the amounts represent or as much as possible. The Texas Homeowners for HOA Reform, Inc. can offer no legal advice for those involved in disputes with their Associations. We're interested in any story, even if it doesn't involve money. Our goal is to reveal the truth about how HOA boards operate and the way they deal with their members. This includes requests for information or viewing HOA documents, exclusion from HOA meetings, denial of voting privileges, or anything that violates your rights as a member of your HOA. Our files have a section for harassment stories. We want to compile statistics about deed restriction violations that are not specifically stated in your HOA's Deed Restriction Covenants. Texas Property Code 204 allows an HOA to cite a homeowner for creating a "nuisance" and therefore being in violation. This is used widely by many HOAs and when taken to the extreme used by particular board members to harass certain homeowners. If you're receiving violation letters for specific things while other homes in your HOA are not, we want this documented for our files whether you're the property owner or a tenant. If you have any questions email us. Mail your story with supporting documents to: Texas Homeowners for HOA Reform, Inc. |
