Richard Craig
Richard Craig has lived in San Antonio for 13 years and has lived in a dual-tiered HOA for the past 11 years. He is devoted to ensuring the futures of his two children, so he got involved and has been a representative for one of his local HOAs for over a year. He fought his HOAs in court many years ago over Architectural Control application and basic communication issues, and sees similar tactics employed by other HOAs. Richard was forced to take his losses after discovering how powerful and rich the HOA industry is, and seeks to help others to avoid having the same fate.
Richard is most concerned with requiring every mandatory HOA's "non-profit charter" be renewed periodically, at least once every 10 years and would like to see the petition process in Texas Property Code 201 be used for this purpose. He believes HOA "volunteers" who serve on the board and their management personnel should assist homeowners whenever they attempt to make plans to improve their homes. "Volunteers" should spend their time working side-by-side with homeowners to create plans/specifications when homeowners wish to put backyard sheds, solar panels, or similar home improvements on their property.
